CEOs in night of shivers

Ellenbrook Advocate - - NEWS -

RISE chief executive Justine Colyer is set to shiver through a cold winter’s night to raise funds for the homeless.

Ms Colyer will take part in her seventh CEO Sleepout, joining hundreds of other chief executives from around the country in the event.

On Thursday, June 22, executives will spend a night outside in a sleeping bag on a piece of cardboard to raise money for St Vincent de Paul.

Ms Colyer has taken part in the CEO Sleepout since it began in WA in 2010.

She said the event was a reminder that some people slept rough through circumstance and not choice.

“It takes CEOs away from comfortable beds and gets us focused on raising funds for St Vinnies,” she said.

“All money raised on the night goes straight to providing services for those who are homeless.”

Collectively, the event aims to raise $1 million to assist the homeless and Ms Colyer said she had set a personal fundraising target of $5000.

She has achieved around a third of her target so far and asked people to consider making a small contribution for a worthy cause.

“Where I live I walk past and chat to people who are homeless nearly every day. I find it appalling that in this day and age we still have people sleeping on the streets and in cars,” she said.
