Pollies dig in to get road link started

Ellenbrook Advocate - - NEWS -

CONSTRUCTION on NorthLink WA, which is expected to halve travel times between Ellenbrook and Morley, has started.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti and Pearce MHR Christian Porter broke ground last week to start the construction of the $1.12 billion project.

The major road upgrade, which is expected to be completed by mid-2019, will provide a nonstop transport route between Morley and Muchea.

Ms Saffioti said once completed, NorthLink WA would take the majority of heavy traffic away from Great Northern Highway, making it safer for local residents.

“NorthLink WA will provide a vital, state-ofthe-art transport link between Morley and Muchea. It will reduce travel times, congestion and help support industry, motorists and the local community,” she said.

“NorthLink WA will generate around 1000 jobs and the start of construction on the central section is another significant milestone for the intiative.

“When finished, the improved and extended Tonkin Highway will be capable of carrying more than double the current number of vehicles and the free flow of traffic will mean vehicles keep moving and travel times improve.”

Government ministers and local stake holders break ground on Northlink WA.
