BINDOON resident Peter Barton is being recognised for saving more than 600 lives through donating his blood.

Mr Barton, who has donated over 200 times and around 95 litres of blood, has been donating since 1968.

He said watching his father, who was a regular donor, inspired him to donate.

“Knowing you have saved lives by just donating blood, is an amazing feeling,” he said.

“I have good health and have the opportunity to give blood and it’s something I can do to give back to my community.”

Mr Barton donates plasma and platelets every five weeks at the Perth Blood Donor Centre. He said now his daughter had followed in his footsteps in becoming a regular donor.

“I would recommend anyone who can donate blood to do it – it’s a great feeling and something that is so simple, but can make such a difference to someone else,” he said.

“Make time – one in three people need blood and only one in 30 give blood.”

National Blood Donor Week is from June 11-17, which recognises the people who save lives through blood donation. The week-long annual event also raises awareness for the need for more blood donors.
