JUNIOR boxer Tara Moss has dreams of winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games, after starting the sport 18 months ago.

The Aveley resident won her first amateur fight last month and is training for the Boxing WA State Championships’ novice division in October.

The 12-year-old said she enjoyed sparring with older boxers and other kids.

“Fighting is fun and not many girls do it,” she said.

She said she trained three times a week in preparation for the upcoming championships.

Coach Troy Sabetta said his charge had natural talent.

“Tara comes to train, but she is also confronted with the hard sessions that are a challenge to anybody,” she said.

“Not only do we train and pay attention to developing technique, there is also growth there as a person and having application towards what she needs to get motivated because it is hard work.

“We find ways to enjoy training and keep the motivation there.”

Sabetta said his boxer would get the opportunity to fight in state titles and represent WA in the nationals in the future.
