Young brickies the best

Ellenbrook Advocate - - NEWS -

STUDENTS from Ellenbrook Secondary College have competed in the World Skills Bricklaying Expo, with three taking out top awards.

Six students participated in the expo held last month at the Perth Convention Centre, where they each took part in a project which was judged.

The students, who are undertaking a certificate II in building and construction, were presented with their certificates and prizes from the expo last week.

Students Duan Duvenhage took out gold, Michael Tierney-Moore won silver and Keanu Kaukasi won bronze for their project.

College workplace learning administration officer Tracy Haydon said the event was positive and showed off the students’ skills.

“This event, along with the students undertaking their cert II in building and construction, really can help set them up in the industry,” she said.

“The students were proud of their achievements and really enjoyed the day out at the expo and worked very hard on their projects.

“For three of the six students to come out with gold, silver and bronze is a fantastic achievement by the school and the gifts and certificates handed to them will hold them in great stead for apprenticeships in the future.”
