Luxury in the Valley

A MULTI-million dollar 32-room luxury hotel will open in the Swan Valley in December at Mandoon Estate.

The Colony at Mandoon Estate, which has been named after the first colony that settled on the Swan River, is the first hotel of its kind in the region.

Mandoon Estate general manager Travers O’Rafferty said the hotel had been 12 months in the making and would fill a demand for luxury accommodation in the Swan Valley.

“There was a huge demand for quality accommodation and there really isn’t anything on offer in the Swan Valley of this size and quality,” he said.

“With everything else we have on offer, with function rooms, winery and restaurants, we thought it made sense to add accommodation to that list and it’s already paying off, with rooms already booked out from our opening date on December 1.”

The hotel will range from $230 to $290 a night, with a modern look of timber, stone and polished concrete and fitting with the landscape of Mandoon Estate and balconies looking over the Swan River.

Mr O’Rafferty said the feedback from guests and locals had already been positive.

“People are really excited about spending a night in the new rooms and not having to drive home after a day out,” he said.

“Mandoon Estate appeals to so many people, whether it be tourists, business guests, weddings or people having a day out, and this gives them the option of a weekend away without having to leave Perth and only 10 minutes from the airport.”

He believed the hotel would be the start of several accommodation options being built in the region.

“I would be surprised if developers or other wineries didn’t follow in our footsteps. There is a demand for more accommodation and the Swan Valley is becoming more popular and well known around the world,” he said.

Mr O’Rafferty said the hotel would also offer special experiences and activities for guests.

“We want to give our guests the full Swan Valley experience and this may include helicopter flights from Mandoon around the Swan Valley, wine experiences and indigenous tourism,” he said.
