Learn more about fracking

Ellenbrook Advocate - - NEWS -

THE GASFIELD Free Swan Valley group will host an information night next week for residents in Brigadoon and Baskerville to warn of the dangers they believe the unconventional gas industry could have on their land.

Group spokeswoman Simone van Hattem said despite the State Government promising to ban fracking in the Swan Valley, there was still a large area covered by a gas exploration lease.

She said the event would include information and a discussion on the current fracking and unconventional gas industry in WA.

“The fracking ban only prevents hydraulic fracturing and not exploration for unconventional gas nor the use of the other experimental methods to get gas out of the ground,” she said.

“While the leases remain active, the threat of invasive gas fields developing in the region remains.”

Ms van Hattem said the information night would include a short film.

“Following a short film, there will be a brief outline of the local situation and what other communities have done to stop their regions from becoming an industrialised gas field,” she said.

The information night will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon from 6.45pm.
