CONSTRUCTION of the final stage of Northlink WA between Ellenbrook and Muchea has started, with the project set to improve safety and ease congestion.

The $1.02 billion project will support more than 7000 direct and indirect jobs and shift 80 per cent of heavy vehicles from Great Northern Highway.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said it would deliver stronger, more efficient road connections between industrial areas.

“Northlink WA will contribute to potential future employment opportunities by connecting to current and future industrial areas. Importantly the new road will take heavy traffic away from roads in the Swan Valley, which will boost safety and potential as a tourist destination,” she said.

The northern section of Northlink WA is due to be completed by mid 2019.

Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher said the project would improve safety on WA roads.

“Northlink WA northern section is the final piece in this $1 billion project to improve safety and ease congestion on local roads,” he said,

Stakeholders and members of Parliament and local government break ground on the final stage of the Northlink WA project.
