Expo offers girls support

Ellenbrook Advocate - - NEWS -

MORE than 500 young girls attended the Girl Empowerment Project at the Guildford Town Hall last week.

The expo, which was organised by Year 10 student Jordyn Hullet, was designed to showcase support available to adolescent girls.

The event was funded by the City of Swan through the What Say Youth grants program.

Swan Mayor David Lucas said the event demonstrated exceptional youth leadership.

“Young people are all drivers of change in our world and I am proud the City could help empower Jordyn in this process,” he said.

“The City’s grants program is there to make these fantastic ideas a reality and help make life better for our communities.”

Councillor Mark Elliott said the expo highlighted opportunities available to young girls and introduced them to all types of services available them.

“The expo was designed to be a fun and creative way to empower adolescents in developing confidence in their skills, abilities and futures,” he said.

“It was great to see inspirational local women deliver talks and performances, including a passionate speech from 2005 Australian of the Year Fiona Wood.”
