Lobby team in Canberra

THE City of Swan’s community advocacy team has met with members of Parliament in Canberra to raise awareness of priority projects.

Swan Mayor David Lucas, chief executive Mike Foley and Deputy Mayor Kevin Bailey met with ministers and shadow ministers last week to raise awareness of the City’s needs.

Mr Foley said the visit was expected to help the City to secure funding for priority projects such as the Ellenbrook Indoor Leisure Centre, Stock Road in Bullsbrook and the Lloyd Street bridge.

“The three-day lobby effort is expected to assist the City in securing funding ahead of the next election and into the forward estimates,” he said.

“The City’s long-running advocacy program has helped to secure funding for major City of Swan projects, including Northlink WA, Ellenbrook’s interim youth centre, Beechboro Community Centre, the duplication of Reid Highway and New Lord Street.

“The City has also pursued the State Government to build a mass transit solution for the residents of Ellenbrook.”

Mayor Lucas said the visit had been proactive.

“While we come to Canberra seeking funds, it’s uncommon to leave with any solid commitments; however I think we’ve been very proactive in this space for a number of years,” he said.

“To provide infrastructure for our growing community is one of our highest priorities and greatest challenges, and we will continue to see support at a state and federal level.”
