Meetings to end 8.30pm

Ellenbrook Advocate - - NEWS -

THE City of Swan will no longer let monthly council meetings run past 8.30pm after an announcement by the Mayor last Wednesday.

The decision follows a marathon seven-hour council meeting last month.

Mayor David Lucas said during the council meeting that any left over business after 8.30pm would be deferred until the following day to be dealt with by council or after a 30minute break for councillors to have their dinner.

“If a council meeting looks like it will run past 8.30pm, council will take a brief break and return approximately 30 minutes later, where council will either resume the meeting or defer the remaining items on the agenda until the following evening,” he said.

“We have a duty of care to the City staff and councillors who attend council meetings and this decision has been made purely for their wellbeing.

“This process is discretionary and will not be implemented at every council meeting. If required, a decision will be made by council on the night; a motion will need to be moved and seconded.”
