THE City of Swan has urged motorists to watch out for kangaroos after a rise in the number of collisions involving kangaroos.

Mayor David Lucas said in the first six months of this year, the City collected 165 dead kangaroos that had been hit by cars, compared with 138 kangaroos for the whole of last year.

He said the City and Main Roads were considering installing additional wildlife warning signs on roads throughout the City.

“Kangaroos pose a significant threat to driver safety and drivers must exercise caution, especially at night,” he said.

“Speed is a major consideration and drivers should apply a common sense approach, particularly in rural areas where there are large kangaroo populations.”
