THE GO-BETWEENS: RIGHT HERE

Empire (Australasia) - - On Screen - JAMES JENNINGS

OUT 28 SEPTEMBER / RATED TBC / 95 MINS DIRECTOR Kriv Stenders

CAST Robert Forster, Grant Mclennan, Lindy Morrison, Robert Vickers, Amanda Brown

BRISBANE BAND THE Go-betweens were perennial underdogs: forming in 1977, they released six critically loved but commercially unsuccessful albums before they split in 1989. This documentary from Red Dog director Kriv Stenders chronicles the decades-spanning creative partnership of songwriters Robert Forster and the late Grant Mclennan, talking to all the key players along the way. Stenders skips any semblance of a fawing tribute by questing for raw truth: interviews with former members Amanda Brown and Lindy Morrison (one time partners of Mclennan and Forster, respectively) are equal parts illuminating and heartbreaking. A moving tribute to a band deserving of their place among the greats of Australian music.
