THE GATEWAY

Empire (Australasia) - - On Screen -

OUT 1 MARCH / RATED M / 90 MINS DIRECTOR John V. Soto

CAST Jacqueline Mckenzie

ON PAPER, THE Gateway has an intriguing enough sci-fi premise: widowed physicist (Mckenzie) discovers how to travel between alternate dimensions; finds her deceased husband’s doppelgänger (Myles Pollard) living in one and brings him back to her reality to play happy families. There are shades of The Astronaut’s Wife when doppel-dad turns out to be a bit of a wrong’un (first clue: he wears black), as the film progressively flips between predictability and preposterousness. Although it looks every cent its low budget, what ultimately brings The Gateway undone is a flimsy script where dubious characters practicing dubious science make dubious decisions every step of the way.
