THE COMMUTER

Empire (Australasia) - - On Screen -

OUT NOW / RATED M / 104 MINS DIRECTOR Jaume Collet-serra

CAST Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson

A NEWLY UNEMPLOYED insurance salesman (Neeson) accepts a bag of money to uncover the identity of a stranger on his train, with deadly consequences. Neeson certainly has the chops to pull off a Hitchcockian thriller, so it’s a pity that Unknown and Non-stop director Collet-serra doesn’t, because The Commuter gives them one hell of a plot, coupled with an almost real-time race against the clock device Hitch would have killed for. Still, it’s an unashamed crowd-pleaser, with enough forward momentum to thunder over its many plot holes, and by the time the train, and the film, go off the rails in spectacular fashion, you’ll probably be having too much fun to care.
