The need-to-know intel on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’s main characters

Empire (Australasia) - - ON SCREEN -

Jack Ryan John Krasinski

Who? Former Marineturned-cia analyst — this version of Ryan is at the beginning of his career, not well known within the agency and with everything to prove to his new boss, James Greer, who takes an instant dislike to him. Previously played by: Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, Chris Pine

James Greer Wendell Pierce

Who? A CIA operative who’s in semi-disgrace and has been given “a backwater post” after stepping over the line in his previous role. He’s initially hostile to Ryan, but sees an opportunity to get back into the field by acting on Ryan’s hunch he’s uncovered a new big-time terrorist. Previously played by: James Earl Jones

Cathey Muller Abbie Cornish

Who? A doctor specialising in infectious diseases and Ryan’s future wife, although not married here — they meet for the first time at a party before a helicopter whisks Ryan away on a top secret mission. Previously played by: Gates Mcfadden, Anne Archer, Bridget Moynahan, Keira Knightley

Suleiman Ali Suliman

Who? The terrorist Ryan and Greer are chasing. Ryan even goes as far as to dub him the new Bin Laden. He’s well-funded, well-protected, and has good reason to hate the United States. His name means “man of peace”. Strictly speaking, it’s not the most accurate of descriptions. Previously played by: N/A
