HOGWARTS AND ALL
A brief history of cinema’s most enchanting school
Hogwarts is founded by Godric Gryffindor (brave one), Helga Hufflepuff (kind one), Rowena Ranvenclaw (clever one), and Salazar Slytherin (evil one).
The founders give Gryffindor’s hat consciousness, creating the Sorting Hat. The four fall out over Slytherin’s wizard supremacist views, and he storms off after creating the Chamber Of Secrets.
Hogwarts establishes the first irresponsibly dangerous Triwizard Tournament with rival schools Beauxbatons and Durmstrang.
Albus Dumbledore arrives for his first year. He later becomes a prefect and head boy.
Newt Scamander enrols, but later is expelled in a beast-related incident.
Dumbledore returns as Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher.
An orphaned Tom Riddle, the heir of Slytherin, arrives.
Riddle coins his own nickname, Lord Voldemort, and opens the Chamber Of Secrets to kill Muggle-born students with the Basilisk. Hagrid takes the blame.
Albus Dumbledore becomes headmaster, and wisely turns down Lord Voldemort’s application for Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher.
Harry Potter turns up for his first year...
... and kills evil Professor Quirrell. Months later Ginny Weasley, possessed by Voldemort’s teen diary, re-opens the Chamber Of Secrets.
Hufflepuff student Cedric Diggory is murdered by Voldemort at the end of the Triwizard Tournament. Risks were clearly not assessed.
Dumbledore is ousted by the Ministry Of Magic, briefly replaced by Ministry psychopath Dolores Umbridge.
Dumbledore, having been reinstated as headmaster, is killed and succeeded by Severus Snape. Brutal.
Harry Potter returns after skiving for a year to blow up half the school and kill Voldemort in the Battle Of Hogwarts.
