Restoration grants are now available
STEPH Ryan ( MLA, Euroa) is encouraging veteran organisations, councils and community groups to apply for grants to assist with restoration work required on war memorials.
Ms Ryan said grants of up to $20,000 to renew or repair local commemorative sites and honour rolls were available through the Restoring Community War Me- morials Grants program.
“Our district has a deep military history and it is important that we stop to acknowledge that.”
“There are many, many families across the region whose lives have been impacted by war, from those whose ancestors joined the Victorian Mounted Rifles to serve in the Boer War or who served in World War II battalions like the Gull and Lark forces, to more recent conflicts like Vietnam and Afghanistan,” Ms Ryan said.
Ms Ryan said over time many memorials had suffered from the elements and the program was designed to assist communities to reinstate them to their original condition.
“Eligible projects for the program could include repairs to broken statues, barriers, fences, foundations or other parts of memorials and restoration to honour rolls,” Ms Ryan said.
Applications for the Restoring Community War Memorials Grants close on February 14, 2017.
