We’ve hit the mid­dle of sum­mer and so what better time to get out and en­joy the amaz­ing nat­u­ral spa­ces that abound in the Goul­burn River Val­ley?

Cy­cling is the ve­hi­cle of choice this sea­son with so many events in­cor­po­rat­ing two wheels.

Ride part of the Jayco Her­ald Sun Tour at Mitchel­ton, ex­plore the new Cas­cades Trail at Lake Moun­tain or take a leisurely ride along the Great Vic­to­rian Rail Trail and just soak up the scenery.

Ex­plore the re­gion at your own pace via the many mar­kets on of­fer ev­ery week­end.

These mar­kets will put you face to face with many of our lo­cal pro­duc­ers, farm gates, ar­ti­sans and com­mu­nity groups.

You won’t be able to re­sist walk­ing away with a bas­ket of lo­cal treats to share when you get home.

Both Lake Eil­don and Lake Nagam­bie have so much to of­fer this sea­son.

You’ll find events, mar­kets and en­ter­tain­ment on and off the wa­ter.

The wa­ter level of Lake Eil­don is just amaz­ing, Lake Nagam­bie is al­ways invit­ing and the mighty Goul­burn River is majestic right now.

Lake Eil­don

Victoria’s largest in­land water­way is brim­ming with life and en­ter­tain­ment this time of year.

With such a wet spring Lake Eil­don is cur­rently 80 per cent full (which is roughly 5x the ca­pac­ity of Syd­ney Har­bour).

This means that there is fan­tas­tic recreational wa­ter for the rest of this sum­mer and likely sev­eral years to come.

From wa­ter ski­ing to fish­ing, camp­ing at Fraser in the Na­tional Park or en­joy­ing the moun­tain trail bike sin­gle tracks around Eil­don there’s some­thing for ev­ery­one.

Great Vic­to­rian Rail Trail

Cy­cle, walk or ride the Great Vic­to­rian Rail Trail, the long­est con­tin­ual rail trail in Aus­tralia.

Span­ning more than 130km from Tal­la­rook to Mans­field, with a branch arm tak­ing you from Cathkin to Alexan­dra its a per­fect ride for a sum­mer day (or three).

Stop at one of the many towns or vil­lages dot­ted along the trail that pro­vide his­tor­i­cal in­sights and con­tem­po­rary treats.

Dis­cover unique land­marks and build­ings, art gal­leries, mu­se­ums, food and wine, shop­ping and mar­kets along the trail.
