Euroa Fruit Market – 2017 Micro Business of the Year Award Finalist

Euroa Gazette - - NEWS -

An interview with Sharyn McClellan

Why did you get involved in/ start your business?

We have a passion for providing quality, fresh, Australian grown producing. We proudly do not stock imported produce. It is our belief that we need to get back to basics and live within our seasons.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your business/job?

Building a relationship with our customers is important to us, having a chat and a laugh is rewarding. Our customers have made this business possible and we are grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.

What are the biggest challenges you face?

Changing people’s mindset in regard to the produce that isn’t perfect. A lot of people expect perfection in produce. We hope people can understand that if it has spots, or is an odd shape, it doesn’t mean it’s not going to taste good, in fact, chances are it has spent more time growing which in return means it has more flavour. 20-40 per cent of Aussie produce gets rejected before it gets to the shop floor because of cosmetic standards.

What opportunities would help you to grow your business?

Promoting our business, getting the word out and the knowledge that we are proud to only supply Australian grown produce. Plans for the future? Moving forward, we hope to eliminate plastic bags completely. We have paper bags and Boomerang Bags and encourage our customers to utilise them. We have seen a real shift in the mindset of our customer and hope to continue this worthwhile cause with the help of our customers.

FRESH AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE: The Euroa Fruit Market is proud to only supply Australian grown produce.
