Euroa reserves lose physical affair
TRAVELLING to Mansfield Euroa was unsure of what the weather would deliver but one thing that was guaranteed was that the Mansfield Reserves would bring a strong contest to the Reserves team.
In a very good game of reserves football, the game opened with a very even first quarter of football.
But as the game played out, Mansfield were able to take control of a game, helped by a dominant ruckman who gave the Mansfield team first use of the ball which placed much pressure on our Euroa team.
To the credit of the Euroa team, they continued to try and work their way back into the game but what hurt them was their decision making and ball use with many targets missed which did not allow Euroa to place pressure on the opposition.
The group also lacked the confidence to take the game up to Mansfield in the first half of the game.
As seen by the number of goals scored by the reserves, it showed how not getting the ball quickly into the forward fifty and turnovers impacted on the scoreboard.
It was a good learning curve for the group who fought the game out in the last quarter giving themselves a chance to snatch victory but they were not able the claw back the deficit they were facing.
The team will have to lift their intensity at the ball and place more pressure on their opponents which was lacking against the Mansfield team as Euroa go forward for the last two games and move into the final’s race.
The team was best served by Trav Burls and Nick Johnson in defence, Jars Tremellen, Will Murray and Jim Ivill through the midfield and Matt Hess up forward.
