50kW target to get community solar bonus

Euroa Gazette - - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR -

AT the Bogie Bulk Buy launch, Cherry Energy Solutions and the Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) committed to donating rooftop solar to a local community organisation if over 50kW were sold through the program.

Just three weeks later this target has been reached, with a further 11 months remaining.

This equates to approximately 72 tonnes of carbon abated annually, and things are just getting started.

The fast pace that local residents are signing on the dotted line demonstrates the enthusiasm of the community for solar.

The Yarra Energy Foundation, who is coordinating the Bogie Bulk Buy Program, said that the affordability of installing solar energy systems meant that their calendar was jam-packed with residents requesting site visits in the next few weeks.

Just who will receive the donation will now be put to a community vote once a short- list of possible beneficiaries is compiled.

YEF is welcoming community suggestions of those worthy of receiving the donation.

If you have a suggestions for a community group within the Shire of Strathbogie that could benefit from some lowered energy bills, please let the Yarra Energy Foundation know by calling 1300 866 634 or by emailing information@yef. org.au.

With this initial goal reached, a community solar donation has been secured.

However that is not the end of the story.

YEF has said that the more solar that is sold through the program the larger the donation can be.

If those signing up for solar continues at the current rate, YEF said they hope to donate several solar energy systems to a number of community groups.

All the more reason, YEF say, to register your interest or attend an information session.
