Reserves fly into 2nd semi

Euroa Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

IN what was a very good game of pressure finals football, the Euroa reserves were able to come away with a hard fought 16-point victory.

The game was played in good spirit with much pressure applied at the contest by both teams.

This was to be a close encounter for all the game with the biggest margin being ten points during the game when Shepparton broke away during the third quarter.

To the credit of the Euroa reserves team they kept working hard to stay in the contest eventually coming away with a sixteen point victory resulting from a very good last quarter when they converted with a four goal four score to Shepparton’s one goal two.

The team was best served by Jack Smith playing in a number of positions down back and up forward, and Nick Johnson who was a strong contributor across the half back line.

Craig Bamford worked hard in his on-ball role and in the forward line Curtis Hoare continued his good first year of senior football giving the team much run during the game.

The team benefited from Brad Cunningham’s play on ball and becoming a good target up forward, and Nick Brodie was solid in a key defence role during the game with a number of good interceptions on the Shepparton forwards at telling times in the game.

Rob Wilson and Jarmyn Tremellen were also very good in the last quarter in the forward line.

It is hard to list all the players but the writer feels that Jim Ivill needs to be mentioned as he was very good leading from the front.

Travis Burls after a little shaky start early, fought back to become a very solid defender for the team and lastly Nick Thomson who won the ball and hit targets.

The team should benefit much from the game as the tempo and pressure of the game was much more than they would have experienced.

This can be seen by the number of individual goal kickers the team had as this occurs when teams are under pressure looking for opportunities to convert their play into goals through forward players getting off their opponents.

Well done to the group but they face a big task against the Kyabram team next Saturday at Rochester.

So to all supporters, please get along and support the team as Kyabram will have a number of teams playing at Rochester and will be there in voice.
