MP Steph Ryan takes pleasure in opening the lawn bowls season
President Bill then asked Steph to officially open the season and in doing so she said that it was a great pleasure to be there for the third time and she congratulated the new committee on taking the positions to run the club for the coming season.
Steph said that the club should be encouraged to continue on what is known as a strong club, in a lovely setting and those who belong make strong friendships over the pennant season and in playing social bowls at many clubs.
Steph said that it was great to welcome Clarice to the day and she then declared the season open and asked Clarice to roll the first jack and Steph then put down the first bowl for the season.
Jann Watters of the match committee announced two games of eight ends would be played, and then all present adjourned to the clubhouse for afternoon tea.
President Bill again welcomed all to the club and again mention was made of Clarice’s achievements and she was asked to give those present a brief history of her bowling prowess in the past.
Clarice had represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, in other Australian championship events and she was also club champion many times in the Goulburn Valley and in Victoria.
All her wins were well-deserved but because of a fall a few years ago she has head to forego playing bowls in recent years.
Secretary Joy O’Donnell, GV Bowls, thanked Euroa for the invitation to be a part of the day and wished Euroa all the best for the pennant season and hoped all would enjoy their bowls in 2017/2018.
Winners of the bowls were John O’Donnell (s), Margaretha Cerini, Max Griffiths and Hilda Biach.
The raffle winners were Marian Rennie, Ken Sutcliffe and Dennis Taylor, Violet Town.
Midweek pennant commences on Tuesday, October 3 and a practice match has been arranged on Tuesday, September 19 with Violet Town and Avenel to be played at Euroa, starting at 10.30am with a ‘bring your own lunch’.
Saturday pennant commences on October 21 and practice matches will be arranged before this date.
Watch the bowls news in the Euroa Gazette and on the outside board at the club.
