Politicians talk shop over a beer at Royal Mail
POLITICS in a pub. Why not? As good a social place as any for a chat many Nagambie folk felt when over 40 gathered at the Royal Mail Hotel recently to meet with two politicians from the Nationals party.
The special guests were Damian Drum (MHR, Murray) and Steph Ryan MP, Deputy Leader of the Victorian Nationals (MLA, Euroa).
The politicians talked informally while sharing a drink and snacks with those who went along from Avenel, Benalla, Euroa, Kilmore, Nagambie, Goulburn Weir and Wahring.
Paul Golding publican of the Royal Mail Hotel welcomed everyone to the gathering and thanked Frances Deane for ar- ranging the get together with the two members.
Damian Drum spoke about subjects that have been topical in the life of a federal member over the past few weeks, such as the price and shortage of gas and Asian long term contracts and state policies.
Other topics briefly included water policies concerning the Murray Darling basin and the effects on the Goulburn Valley and irrigation; same sex marriage, dual citizenship issues, and on state politics especially concerning Victorians paying exorbitant prices for gas.
A short question and answer time followed the short talk by Mr Drum and he and Ms Ryan encouraged the attendees to speak to them further on matters of concern that may need further research or information.
