Open garden event to support charities
JULIE and Gary Campbell of Birchwood Near Benalla are running an ‘open garden’ in their one acre garden on October 7 and 8.
All profits will be shared between Wangaratta and Benalla Hospitals and Cancer Council Victoria.
Julie and Gary’s passion for gardening has been used to support charities and over the past few years has completely take over their lives.
So far they have raised over $10,000 shared between their charities over three years of open gardens.
Mrs Campbell said it was a cause close to their hearts.
“We love our local hospitals and as family members and friends have had cancer, it is very important to us to support Cancer Council Victoria,” she said.
This year Birchwood is in partnership with artists’ cooperative, North East Artisans, of Benalla.
Deb Dodd, mosaic artist; Garth Hughes, sculptor, Marg Zaal, botanic artist and Cathy Pianta, garden ornaments and Nooramunga Natural Skincare provider will all display their creations in the garden.
Sales commissions are to be donated to the charities.
To complete the “festival” vibe, Benalla College music students will be performing acoustically on Sunday and Northern Rivers Academy of Music on Saturday.
Children’s activities will be provided and the teas stall will provide sandwiches at lunch time as well as scones, jam and cream, delicious cakes and slices.
Each charity is providing a team of helpers over the weekend as well as assisting in distributing fliers.
Five local businesses donated money to fund the production of fliers and another is providing a portaloo.
A great community effort for three great causes.
‘Birchwood’ is located at 653 ODea Road, Molyullah.
The gardens will be open on from 10am until 5pm.
Entry is $6 with children of 18 years and under free.
