Euroa goes down to Terip Terip

TERIP Terip were sim­ply too good for Euroa Pur­ple in the Euroa District Win­ter Ten­nis Com­pe­ti­tion grand fi­nal held last week.

Played in warm but windy con­di­tions at Euroa, Terip got off to a good start win­ning the first set 8- 2 and nar­rowly los­ing the sec­ond in a tie break.

The sec­ond set saw them win 8-1 and 8-2, while the fi­nal pair­ings were much closer.

Terip won th­ese 8-6 and 8-7; this time tak­ing the tie break to win five sets to one, and 47 games to 26.

Many sup­port­ers watched on and en­joyed the cel­e­bra­tions af­ter.

It had been a suc­cess­ful sea­son with many play­ers tak­ing to the court and much ten­nis be­ing played through­out the colder win­ter months.

ON Sun­day, 27 bowlers trav­elled to Bright for the an­nual Euroa ver­sus Bright bowls match.

This event first started in 1898 then was aban­doned for a great num­ber of years dur­ing the world wars and other times then restarted in 1995 and has been an an­nual tus­sle ever since.

As there were more Euroa bowlers than Bright mem­bers, sev­eral Euroa mem­bers played in teams rep­re­sent­ing Bright.

But th­ese were not tal­lied up as af­ter only one game was played, the weather man in­ter­rupted the games with a heavy shower of rain.

Scores from the game played ended with Bright win­ning with 59 to Euroa 35, thus they re­tained the tro­phy.

A de­li­cious bar­beque and salad lunch plus sweets pre­ceded the game and af­ter­noon tea was taken early be­fore the pre­sen­ta­tions.
