Teams to thrill in Long­wood: ‘the car­riage driv­ing Mecca’

THE An­nual Skye Park Aus­tralian Car­riage Driv­ing Clas­sic is on in Long­wood Recre­ation Ground this week­end, at­tract­ing a huge num­ber of en­tries from through­out Aus­tralia; in­clud­ing a va­ri­ety of out­fits from Tas­ma­nia, South Aus­tralia, NSW and Vic­to­ria.

Long­wood has long been known as the Car­riage Driv­ing Mecca of Aus­tralia and is jus­ti­fi­ably proud of this ti­tle.

Hosted by the Long­wood Car­riage Driv­ing Club the An­nual Novem­ber Clas­sic has been run­ning at Long­wood since 1996.

Top billing will be seven Four – in – hand Teams of Horses and Ponies.

Satur­day will fea­ture the Driven Dres­sage where beau­ti­fully pre­sented out­fits rang­ing from small sin­gle ponies, through to Pairs, Tan­dems and Teams of Ponies and Horses, will de­light spec­ta­tors from around the dis­trict and the Na­tion.

Only a short walk away will be the Ob­sta­cle ( Cones) Course, where all com­peti­tors are re­quired to ne­go­ti­ate a tricky course against the clock through a se­ries of witches’ hats with balls on top.

Sun­day will be the day for all the ex­cite­ment and thrills of the Marathon Ob­sta­cles. Spec­ta­tors can view the ma­jor­ity of the Ob­sta­cles from one cen­tral, eas­ily ac­ces­si­ble view­ing point, par­tic­u­larly suit­able for young fam­i­lies and the el­derly, and with wheel chair ac­cess.

En­try for Spec­ta­tors is en­tirely free on both days.

Whilst at­tend­ing the Car­riage Driv­ing Spec­tac­u­lar at Long­wood re­mem­ber to make time to visit the Shrine of Re­mem­brance Pho­to­graphic Ex­hi­bi­tion “Aus­tralia will be there” in the Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, which will be open on both Satur­day and Sun­day be­tween 11am and 3pm.

Scrump­tious cater­ing all week­end by the ladies of the Long­wood Com­mu­nity Cen­tre is al­ways a fea­ture of any Car­riage Driv­ing Event at Long­wood .
