Rev Michelle to be inducted as Anglican parish’s priest
THE Anglican parish of Euroa, Longwood and Violet Town will welcome a new priest this month.
On Saturday, October 13, 11am at St Paul’s Anglican Church, the Reverend Dr Michelle Wood will be inducted as the districts new Anglican priest.
Rev Michelle has recently completed a PhD in Creative Writing on silent meditation with the University of Kent, Canterbury, and Theological studies at Trinity College, University of Melbourne.
She was awarded the Catherine Laufer Award for Academic Excellence in Systematic Theology.
Rev Michelle is married to Paul and the pair has five grown children - Luca, Clara, Stanley, Austin and Anneke - who are all either working or studying in Melbourne.
Rev Michelle and Paul are set to move to Euroa to live in the Rectory.
They will also spend some time retreating to their 22 acres of land comprised of bush and hills just out of Mansfield where they grow vegetables, and live off solar and rain water attempting to minimise their ecofootprint.
The beautiful place is one they describe as a ‘back to basics’ lifestyle living close to nature, which Rev Michelle said is an important feature of a spiritual life.
Rev Michelle has worked as a family counsellor with couples and children for the last 20 years, supervised counselling teams, and led many community development and wellbeing programs.
She initially trained as an occupational therapist, but went on to complete postgraduate studies in family Therapy.
Rev Michelle is delighted to be appointed to care for the beautiful churches of St Paul’s, Euroa, St Dunstan’s Violet Town and St Andrew’s Longwood.
She noted that there is a proud Anglican tradition across the Strathbogie Shire and the three churches have been lovingly cared for since 1885.
Rev Michelle said that she has always loved going to church and experiencing the mystery of God’s presence through beauty, silence, sacrament and community.
She is keenly interested in the Gospel of social justice, inclusion of all and dignity.
She hopes her time of ministry in the district will foster in every way efforts to bring people healing, peace, depth, creativity and unity.
All members of the community are invited to attend her welcoming induction ceremony on Saturday St Paul’s Anglican Church, Euroa, where a light lunch will be provided.
NEW FRIENDLY FACE: Reverend Michelle Wood will begin duties from October 13 and is looking forward to getting to know the community.
