The Hamil­ton-Ros­berg ght con­tin­ues at the high­est level, Lewis lead­ing Nico ve-three in terms of wins postHun­gary. Canada was al­ways go­ing to be a piv­otal race, af­ter the drama of Lewis’s un­nec­es­sary pit­stop at Monaco: in 2014 Nico won in Monaco and worked mir­a­cles in Canada, spring­board­ing his way into Lewis’s psy­che.

This year in Mon­tréal we saw a very dif­fer­ent Lewis. Re­laxed and calm pre-race, he dis­played none of the angst for which the media were so thirsty. Noth­ing was go­ing to in­ter­fere with his plan of at­tempt­ing to set pole on his rst Q3 run and then go­ing on to win the race.

It’s this fo­cus on Q3 that has ac­counted for the big­gest im­prove­ments in Lewis; that and his new abil­ity to think about Sun­day, even in FP1. The pat­tern evolves thus:
