This team have strong potential to deliver this year. They have the commitment from Ferrari and are expected to achieve a high level early on. Guenther Steiner has been hired by team owner Gene Haas to run the team, and he’s someone I know from my early days at Red Bull. He went off to America and did NASCAR, met up with Gene and now he’s back in F1. They’ve made a good choice in hiring him: he’ll do a solid job and he’s brought in a few ex-Red Bull and Jaguar people. It’s a young team and they might need a dummy to soothe the inevitable teething troubles, but they have a very good business model.
Haas did the same thing in the US to promote his products: he bought a Hendricks NASCAR and went and won the championship. So they could be the surprise of the season.
THE ONLY WAY IS UP
MURRAY ON HAAS A good team from America would be a big boost for F1 and Haas could be it. I’m impressed with the sensible way they’ve gone about things, and with Ferrari support and Romain Grosjean they could be a dark horse for mid-field places.
