drumMUSTER and ChemClear are Australia’s leading stewardship programs, with 27 million containers recycled and 523 tonnes of chemical destructed since the programs commenced in the late 90s and early 2000s respectively.

To ensure good stewardship a majority of agvet chemical manufacturers have signed up to give their customers a return pathway for the appropriate recycling of containers and any residual chemical. Thousands of chemical users have in turn delivered their containers and obsolete chemical through the programs for safe environmental recycling and disposal.

Lisa Nixon, National Program Manager for ChemClear, is happy with the results but says there is still room for improvement.

There are many chemical users who have not participated in the recycling and disposal movement, instead stockpiling containers and chemical or, in isolated cases, disposing of them illegally.

With the continued demand for agvet chemical in the market, our programs remain an important disposal choice. Sometimes it just takes a little longer for everyone to get on board, and new participants are always welcome.

drumMUSTER has had ongoing success, consistently collecting approx. 2 million drums annually over the past seven years.

ChemClear is collecting through Western Australia in June. You can register for the service on 1800 008 182 or visit www.chemclear.com.au drumMUSTER has over eight hundred permanent collection locations across Australia.
