Hardi Australia has taken the wraps off its new Hellios “light-weight” self-propelled sprayer.

The 3,000-litre Hellios has already proven popular with European growers thanks to its design making it “perfect” on soft soils, tight headlands, and difficult slopes.

Hardi Australia CEO Bill Franklin says the local business has invested considerable time and expertise to tailor the European concept for local farmers’ requirements. “We are acutely aware that local spraying needs are unique,” he says. “That’s why we build our sprayers here.”

The Hellios’ standout feature is its front-mounted aluminium boom, which is offered locally in widths from 24 to 36 metres. Hardi says the arrangement gives operators a panoramic forward view of their job from the machine’s category-four cab.

Franklin says Hardi Australia has put substantial work into its aluminium booms, which are designed to provide a better performance on the region’s farms. “We have been working with aluminium booms for many years,” he says. “Hardi Australia has unmatched expertise in integrating aluminium boom wings with advanced boom centres to deliver the best ride, height control, and durability.

“Our experience and Hardi’s AutoHeight control means the Hellios boom will spend far more time at an optimum height above the crop or soil – and that means more effective application,” he adds.

Hardi Australia will offer Hellios with the fixed track width of

1.8 metres, as well as wider two-metre and three-metre options. Four-wheel steering is also available, for manoeuvrability in tight headlands.

The Hardi Hellios uses a hydro-mechanical drive system, which manages the power and torque output of its 140hp Deutz diesel engine to optimise performance and traction. This system also allows the sprayer to excel on a lighter and more economical power plant, saving weight and fuel.

Other features include the ActivAir nozzle control system, to maintain pressure in the fluid system, a 35-litre graduated induction hopper, multi-layer airbag suspension, and the Matrix Pro GS 840 controller.

From its factory in Adelaide, Hardi is able to configure each Hellios to suit individual customer requirements.
