Once the Se­nior race is run at the TT peo­ple tend to for­get about the Isle of Man for another 50 weeks. But the place is buzzing with rac­ing ac­tiv­ity all through the summer, with the new Clas­sic TT grab­bing lots of head­lines as well as the ManxGP breed­ing the next gen­er­a­tion of road rac­ing tal­ent. But there is another crack­ing event that splits the TT and Clas­sic dates – the South­ern 100. Us­ing the Bil­lown road cir­cuit on the south of the is­land, Castletown is the base of the rac­ing with the course run­ning 4.25 miles through the ham­lets around the is­land’s for­mer cap­i­tal. While there’s no moun­tain to climb phys­i­cally, the track still of­fers chal­lenges galore. The dry stone walls here take no pris­on­ers, much like any­where else...
