Kawasaki have flip-flopped the Ninja ZX-6R’s capacity between 599cc and 636cc since 2002, making it the only Japanese supersport bike to break the self-imposed capacity limit. In most cases it has made for a better road machine, because of its addition of low-to-mid range performance, but in other areas it has made the already wild Ninja even more aggressive and wayward. The 2003/4 is the coolest 636, the 2005/6 the wildest and the 2013-onwards the most refined – pick the one that suits your needs!

Finish is a major weak point on Ninja models, so look out for a well-cared for example. Crash damage is common, there are a few reports of gearboxes going and poorly fitted accessories can be a nightmare to rectify.
