POWER MAXED RACING ASTRA BTCC
The country might be in lockdown but Covid-19 isn’t going to stop us from going racing! Where there’s a will there’s a way…
It’s been an interesting few months for us, as it has for the whole planet. Obviously, with social distancing firmly in effect, motorsport was going to suffer, with the UK’s governing body Motorsport UK suspending all licences until the end of June. So what would we do in the meantime? Millions of people want to watch some proper racing and who are we to stand in their way?
eSports has, over the last few months, seen a meteoric rise in popularity. Which is hardly surprising, considering even the world’s most famous drivers can’t leave their homes. All you need is a decent sim rig… although they can cost north of £10k. Ouch.
Being a team with some decent stature, in the UK’s biggest championship, we’ve got some friends in high places, which meant when we were talking about creating our own series, we knew we could get some decent names involved. We’d actually been chatting with the guys over at the Virtual Racing Association since the end of 2019, so we were in a good place to start. They introduced us to the good people at NXTGEN, who are one of the UK’s most famous eSports championship organisers. It all started coming together, a lot quicker than we thought!
We put the word out amongst the professional racing community and the response was massive. Within a few days, we had top level drivers from not only the UK but all over the world, wanting to get stuck in. We’re talking Le Mans winners, WTCR drivers, a Porsche Carrera Cup Champion and a double BTCC champion to name but a few. Oh, and a Fast & Furious stunt driver. Which is pretty rad. The PMR iSeries was born.
In fact, we had so much interest for it that we had to hold a qualifying round. Apparently, there are hundreds of you that want to race against your heroes. Who knew? Well, just 120 of the fastest racers could enter the series, with the top 15 (along with a few who were invited by the championship organisers) going into the top “tier” and getting the chance to trounce the real life race winners.
By the time you read this, we’ll have had our second race round and, if the first was anything to go by, it will have been pretty epic. If you need some entertainment, and it sounds like your kind of thing, you can catch it all LIVE on the PMR Facebook, at 8pm BST every Wednesday.
Team Fast Car made an appearance…
… well, you didn’t think we’d miss out did you?
Looks just like the real thing
