FIESTA ST INTAKE SYSTEM

- Words & Photos Jamie

Get your Mk7 Fiesta ST breathing better through one of Revo’s complete intake systems, here’s how to fit it all…

The first basic principal of engine tuning is to get more air in and out of the engine faster, so replacing the standard plastic airbox and paper panel filter with a much less restrictive performance intake system is one of the first mods to make in the pursuit of power.

The standard airbox on the Fiesta ST isn’t too bad, but when you start tuning that mighty 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine it can quickly become a restriction holding things back – remember there are conversion kits available now that take the ST’s power to over 300bhp!

But it’s not just a case of fitting a huge air filter and hoping for the best. In the cramped Fiesta engine bay things can get quite hot,so any gains can soon be lost if the engine gulps in hot air.

That’s why a decent intake system needs to consider not only the rate at which the air can flow through it, but also be aware of the dreaded heat soak issues too. Revo say they have the answer, with their complete intake system for the Mk7 Fiesta ST. Comprising a three-stage foam filter, to allow maximum airflow without comprising filtration, 70mm mandrel-bent pipework for smooth airflow, and a custom heatshield to prevent under-bonnet temperatures affecting the intake air, Revo say their intake system offers gains in both power and torque (as much as 8-10whp and 10Nm in some cases) and improved throttle response. It also lays the foundations for any further engine tuning.

So, let’s find out how to fit it all…
