HOW TO FIT FOCUS RS SHORT SHIFTER

Fitting a quick shift kit is one of easiest and most rewarding upgrades you can make to any car, so here’s how to fit mountune’s offering for the Mk3 Focus RS…

If there’s one thing you do every time you drive your car, it’s change gear. It doesn’t matter if you’re just popping to the shops for a pint of milk, cruising around enjoying the weekend sunshine, or blasting around a track at full throttle, no matter what you’re doing in your car, you will change gear.

Fitting a quick shifter, then, makes a lot of sense. And at just £159 for mountune’s beautifully-crafted billet short-shift arm for the Mk3 Focus RS, it offers great value – just spread that costs against the number of times you’ll change gear and you’ll see it’s one of the best value mods you can make. As with all of mountune’s stuff, it’s exquisitely made, fits and operates perfectly, and could easily pass for an OEM upgrade – in fact, Ford should have probably fitted this at the factory as it’s much nicer than the OE piece. It’s one of those win-win upgrades; it has zero downsides yet makes a noticeable and rewarding difference every time you use the car.

Of course, you can have the short shifter fitted at mountune HQ, or one of their many dealers across the country, but it’s actually quite a simple job for any competent enthusiast to do themselves – the kit even comes with a special-sized pin for knocking out the original dowel. We opted to have one fitted when the gearbox was removed having an ATB fitted (as this allows better access for photos), but the kit can be installed with the gearbox in situ in less than an hour. And while we’re looking at the Mk3 Focus RS model in particular here, the process is very similar for other models such as the Mk3 Focus ST too.

So, here’s what’s involved with fitting mountune’s short shift kit…
