The most com­mon pair­ing with duck is pinot noir but be­cause of the nut­meg, cin­na­mon and ju­niper berries in the duck leg with gnoc­chi it re­ally pushes it up a notch into a heav­ier wine and our Are You Game? Shi­raz is per­fectly suited. The thing about shi­raz grown in the Strath­bo­gie Ranges where we are, is the lift in aro­mat­ics; be­cause of the cool cli­mate you get a lot of herbal com­plex­ity, which mar­ries very well with Ric­cardo’s dishes. This shi­raz works with both dishes, but if you want to step up again for the gnoc­chi dish, its rich duck sauce will also be com­ple­mented by the Are You Game? Caber­net Sau­vi­gnon.
