2018 National Retrieving Trial Championship

Field and Game - - NEWS -

Field & Game Australia (FGA) is again a major sponsor of the National Retrieving Trial Championship to be held this year from September 14 to 16 at Alexandra in Victoria.

Kate Eltringham and Noel Eltringham have been appointed as judges for the 49th National Championship, which will be a test over no less than eight runs with at least 17 items of game to be retrieved.

Trial manager Wayne Poholke said the region offered a variety terrain but rain would be a deciding factor. “We are waiting patiently for Mother Nature to do her thing. There will be water to swim in, but the weather will determine how much; we like to include long swims,” he said. “We have a number of properties with tussock and grassland cover and some billabongs, but the decision on the final locations will be made closer to the event.”

The Victorian State Championship Retrieving Trial for Gundogs will be held in the same area on September 7 and 8. Robert and Gareth Tawton have been appointed judges. Wayne Poholke said spectators were welcome, especially hunters who trained and worked their own gundogs. “People can get up close to the action and a lot of the competitors have been doing it for years; they are always happy to help with some advice, and to pass on their knowledge,” he said. Trial competitors can enter online at www.ezydog.com.au while updates on locations and schedules will be posted on ankc.org.au
