Wading into new territory

Sitka Gear has a strong pedigree when it comes to keeping waterfowl hunters warm, dry and comfortable, so the release of its first waders has been eagerly anticipated.

Sitka Gear waterfowl marketing manager Ryan Bassham wore prototype waders on his recent hunting trip to Victoria and South Australia, but the real deal is now officially on the market.

It has not been an easy journey, with years of research and development to make what Sitka is calling the “last pair of waders you will every buy”.

“At Sitka side, what we really pride ourselves in doing is making gear that allows you to go into the field and stay in the field longer and more comfortably,” Ryan said.

“There’s lots of different options of gear to wear, but you don’t want to have to leave the field because of your gear, whether its discomfort or failure. If it fits right, and performs the way it should then you forget about it and you can worry about what it is you are there to do.”

The waders come in two versions, the Delta Wader and Delta Zip Wader, and they will set you back either US$849 or US$949 but the big difference is the waders are fully serviceable. “The wader we’ve developed for waterfowlers are pretty special, it has been a four-and-a-half-year project that included visiting factories around the world,” Ryan said. “Waders the world over are disposable, meaning they are designed to eventually fail, so we designed ours to be versatile for a wide range of temperatures, more durable and serviceable. When they fail, and they will because they are most used and abused piece of equipment in a waterfowlers armoury, we can fix them.”

Available in the GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment Timber and Marsh patterns, the waders have integrated Lacrosse boots with Aeroform injection-molded insulation, creating an ultra-warm, comfortable, light and durable boot. Reinforced and rugged foam pads cover the shins and knees while high hand-warmer pockets, water-resistant zippered storage pockets, and no-buckle suspension make comfort and function a priority. Delta Zip Waders include a durable and waterproof front zipper for simple access.
