Go to any mar­ket in Shanghai and you can ex­pect to find a myr­iad sell­ers with the ‘lat­est’ Nike train­ers, Louis Vuit­ton hand­bags and Rolex watches. The same seems to be the case if you hap­pen across small fac­to­ries on the out­skirts of the world’s most pop­u­lous city. On one in­dus­trial es­tate, you’ll find a huge Lionel Messi bob­ble­head (freshly cleaned and in Ar­gentina strip), plus two fig­ures with the Blue Steel stare of Cris­tiano Ronaldo, but in ‘Eng­land colours’.
