Harrington praises Hauser’s commitment

Fraser Coast Chronicle - - SPORT -

BRIAN Harrington was kicking back on a boat off Airlie Beach as his former charge Matthew Hauser stormed to a world title.

Hauser blitzed the field to win the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final junior men’s title at Rotterdam, Holland, on Saturday.

Harrington, who coached Hauser before the Commonwealth Games hopeful linked with Dan Atkins at the Gold Coast two years ago, said he was proud of the athlete’s effort.

Not only was it a major achievement for Hauser, but a huge moment for the local triathlon scene: a Hervey Bay Triathlon Club member is a world champion.

“Now we have a junior world, elite, champion,” Harrington said.

“It’s huge for Hervey Bay, but I was so happy for him. He’s been so committed.

“We were jumping up and down on the boat (when Hauser crossed the finish line). He did a great job in those conditions.”
