Repairs start on worst of Walker St
STAGE one of repairs to one of the region’s worst roads will begin next week.
Fraser Coast Councillor Denis Chapman confirmed the project in Walker St, Maryborough was due to start on Monday with a temporary lane closure in place.
"A single lane will allow for westbound traffic only. All eastbound traffic will be detoured via Rex Street, Aberdeen Avenue and Neptune Street," Cr Chapman said.
The rebuilding of road pavement, kerb and channel, storm-water drainage and concrete footpath between Stevenson and Neptune streets will be completed by Hervey Bay’s SGQ Pty Ltd.
SGQ Pty Ltd will also complete Stage 3B of the Main Street project in Hervey Bay, which is expected to start in early February and finish at the end of April.
Cr Chapman said the total costs for these projects are about $1.2 million for Main Street and $1.3 million for Walker Street.
"These projects being awarded to a Fraser Coast company are examples of Council’s commitment to supporting local businesses whenever possible; $52.5 million of Council’s infrastructure budget for last year to November was allocated to local contractors."
SGQ Pty Ltd has also worked in other Council projects including the Drury Lane Extension, Raward Road Open Channel Upgrade, the Maryborough CBD Flood Resilience Project, Oleander Avenue Reconstruction Stage 2 and the Hunter Street drainage upgrade.
