Dentist jailed for hypnosis sex

Fraser Coast Chronicle - - NEWS -

AN 82-year-old former dentist who hypnotised and sexually assaulted young patients in NSW in the 1980s has been jailed for 16 years with a non-parole period of eight years. Last year a court found Werner Otto Schwarz guilty of 17 sex offences against four boys aged under 16 years – the youngest was nine. In the District Court yesterday, Judge Helen Syme sentenced him for the “horrific and systemic” abuse. Schwarz had taken advantage of the trust and respect he had in his rural community, she said. Victims’ parents had urged their children to take hypnosis believing it would help. The now middle-aged men live with the memories of what Schwarz did, despite his direction under hypnosis that they forget the abuse.
