Hervey Bay Softball rep trials in Bundaberg

Fraser Coast Chronicle - - SPORT -

HERVEY Bay Softball Association will hold its first representative trials.

The inclusion of three Bundaberg-based clubs –

The Waves, Brothers United, and Bargara – resulted in a vast increase in Hervey Bay Softball’s playing numbers.

It means that this Sunday, Hervey Bay will require representative trials for the first time, with the competition’s best male and female under-15 players to compete for positions in the state championship teams.

The trials will be held at Brothers’ Faircloth Cres, Bundaberg, diamond.

Hervey Bay Softball president Donna Jenkins said it was easier to host trials at Bundaberg due to vastly superior number of eligible players coming from those three clubs.

She said the trials were a good thing, particularly for Hervey Bay’s juniors.

“It’s good as they’ll have to earn their position in the teams. We’ve never had to have trials,” she said.

Joy McPherson will coach the U15 boys, with Di Phillips the U15 girls coach.

The trials run from 9am.
