Magpies jump to fifth

Fremantle Gazette - - SPORT -

A HUGE 1-0 win over third-placed Vic Park has kept the Fremantle Hockey Club’s Premier 1 men’s chances of playing finals alive.

Vic Park had dropped just two games leading up to Saturday’s game and this one also looked like going down to the wire until Fremantle’s Matthew Butturini found the back of the net in the 67th minute.

With just six games to go, the win has helped Fremantle jump up into fifth spot, now just three points behind Vic Park, who slipped to fourth.

Fremantle face another important game this Sunday against Old Aquinians, who sit just one point below them in sixth.

Fremantle’s Premier 1 women lost yet another game, this time going down to Vic Park 3-1.

Captain Jess Steele was the sole goal scorer for Fremantle in the 13th minute, before a trio of goals from Vic Park.

Both Fremantle teams will next play Old Aquinians, the women from 2.30pm, July 23 at Aquinas Turf and the men’s right after at 4pm.
