Collier eyes Shanghai and soccer dream
A BEELIAR teenager will show off his soccer skills on the international stage after he was selected to represent WA in the upcoming Jinshan International Youth Football Cup in Shanghai.
Lewis Collier and 17 others in the under 16 squad will take on representative teams from China, Nigeria, Bahrain, Spain and the Czech Republic in the round robin competition.
WA State team coach Garry Church said the players had been training for this opportunity for the last two months and would benefit from this international tournament.
“It will be great for the players to go up against highcalibre opposition from around the world,” he said.
“Our squad has been training well over the past few weeks and it will be a great challenge against such good opposition and teams of players who’ve been playing together for quite some time.
“But we have talented players of our own and with the right attitude, which I’m sure all players will have, they’ll perform very well and get so much out of this, which will be an experience of a lifetime.”
The Jinshan International Youth Football Cup is on from July 21 to 30.
