Fremantle Gazette - - OPINION -

IT was both impressive and amusing to read of the sustainable building innovation and design success in the North Coogee area (Fremantle Gazette, July 18).

Great because it acts as a beacon to other far more dull and backward developers, habitually flouting function over form in their designs to help keep the mortgaged masses as ignorant as possible – gotta keep those worker drones busy.

Hilarious, because just as an iceberg twice the size of Luxembourg decides to part with its Antarctic origins, we see the prologue of a globally warming century leading to sea levels rising to at least over 7m on current measures.

It's that kind of myopic view from developers, and revenue raking governments, whose planning departments remind me of the same kind of antics seen in ABC TV's recent spoof series Utopia.

Perhaps we need to re-consider our collective sanity? TIM J FRODSHAM Mt Hawthorn
