Lake­side women lord it over Hawks

LAKE­SIDE Light­ning’s women have handed lad­der-lead­ing Perry Lakes Hawks their sec­ond loss of the sea­son in em­phatic style on Satur­day night.

The 89-67 win came on the back of a huge game from im­ports Ali Sch­wag­meyer and Syd­nee Fipps, who scored 22 and 20 points re­spec­tively.

The win helps Lake­side se­cure third spot on the lad­der with just one game to go be­fore fi­nals.

Lake­side’s men also took the points in their match up against Perry Lakes, es­cap­ing with a 99-98 win.

Im­port Devon Atkin­son sunk a mas­sive five from five from be­yond the arc on his way to 19 points, while fel­low Amer­i­can James Pad­gett scored seven three-point­ers him­self and top scored with 31 points.

The sev­enth-placed Cock­burn Cougars women have done enough to se­cure a fi­nals berth with a 68-57 away win against East Perth. Ker­sten Mitchell again dom­i­nated in the paint, sink­ing 30 points.

The Cougar men went two from two to place them in equal fourth with Perth and the South West Slam­mers but sit­ting in sixth on per­cent­age.

They kicked it off on Satur­day night with a 95-88 away win against East Perth be­fore re­turn­ing home the next night to beat Ger­ald­ton 116-96.

Lochlan Cum­mings did the dam­age on Satur­day night with 23 points, while Jalen Billups also net­ted 21.

Cum­mings backed up his per­for­mance on Sun­day night, de­stroy­ing Ger­ald­ton with a 41-point haul.

In the fi­nal round of the sea­son Lake­side’s women take on Wil­let­ton from 6.30pm July 28 at the Lake­side Re­cre­ation Cen­tre, while the men tip off against the Tigers right af­ter at 8.30pm.

Cock­burn’s women will host Kala­munda from 6.30pm July 28, with the men up against the Suns from 8.30pm.
